The Jesus Filter

I made an interesting discovery today while posting comments at the Globe and Mail. The article discussed the upcoming documentary on the purported discovery of Jesus' tomb in Jerusalem.

The conversation was semi-moderated, meaning that an automatic filter is used to restrict postings. One of my posts was continually rejected, until another member of the conversation pointed out in a post that the filter would not allow any posts containing the word "Jesus". Once I replaced "Jesus' resurrection" with "the resurrection", my post was accepted.

Did the Globe and Mail hire the same censor as the airline industry?

Meh, that's media for you. I imagine though that the comments could get fairly intense once Jesus is let in. But whatever. Ben Witherington responds in full to this story here:

Thanks for the link, Kenny.

It's interesting to see how many of the same arguments are being rehashed by atheists in the conversation. It's like they all went to the same school as Sam Harris.

I wanted to quote some of your responses on this blog, but that would have me plagiarizing you (after having commented about plagiarizing Sam Harris).

The Globe and Mail conversations seem to consistently turn into a forum for bashing whatever point-of-view that is discussed in the main article. They are also a good indication of how difficult it is to have an intelligent debate, even in a so-called tolerant society.
